But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is
God's throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by
Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shall you swear
by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. But let
your communication be, Yea, yea; No, no: for whatsoever is more than
these comes of evil.
Go to now, you that say, To day or
to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and
buy and sell, and get gain:Whereas you know not what shall be on the
morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appears for a
little time, and then vanishes away. For that you ought to say, If the
Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. But now you rejoice in
your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
